Race Report - Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britiain : Bridgman and Harvey share Carrera Cup poles at Knockhill (15-8-09)

Tim Bridgman and Tim Harvey each took a pole position ahead of rounds 13 and 14 of the 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Knockhill today (Saturday 15 August 2009).  Robert Lawson topped pro-am1 for both races while Paul Hogarth headed pro-am2 during a session that started wet and improved across the 30-minute duration.

With 19 cars on track, it was a busy session and as the rain stopped the times came down. Late in the session came a red flag when Bob Lyons spun and conditions were even better for a final six-minute rush. However, more yellow flags and then another red flag meant that there were few further improvements.

Harvey (Red Line Racing) headed the times for much of the session, but then Bridgman (Team Parker Racing) jumped ahead by just three-thousandths of a second. Harvey's second best lap earned him pole for round 14 with Bridgman second, so they both added one championship point to their tally.

"I'm happy with the pole, but it was a bit of a lottery," said Bridgman. "With traffic, yellow flags and red flags,

I couldn't find a gap to do another quick lap." Harvey was disappointed not to take two poles, having been quickest in the rain during Friday's test day. "It was one-all on poles and the points for pole are very important," said Harvey. "The conditions changed all through the session, but it looks like it's going to be dry tomorrow."

Michael Caine (Motorbase Performance) and James Sutton (Red Line Racing) each took a third place, with Sutton fourth for race one, but Caine down in sixth for race two. "We got the car right mid-session and got one good lap in; then I was on for another one when the yellows came out," said Caine, who faces a tough second race in getting through to challenge Bridgman and Harvey. "I definitely think we could have been on the front row."

Lawson (JHR) topped pro-am1 for both races, with an impressive run to fifth overall for round 13 and fourth overall for round 14. "I'm pleased with that," said Lawson. "The track was chalk and cheese before and after the red flag, but on a good lap I came across a spun car at the hairpin and had a half-spin myself." The closest rival to Lawson was Glynn Geddie (Team Parker Racing), but he missed the second half of the session after spinning into the gravel at Leslie's. "I just took too much of the kerb," he reported, but the young Scot still took second in pro-am1 for both races ahead of Ollie Jackson (Motorbase Performance). The pro-am2 contest promises to be just as hard fought and it was Hogarth (IN2Racing) who finally emerged as fastest to take two poles. "It was getting drier and drier all the time," reported Hogarth after a very competitive session. Within a fraction of a second of Hogarth for both races was Glenn McMenamin (Parr Motorsport), having traded top times with Hogarth throughout the session. "I saw P1, then P2, then P1 and then P2 again," said McMenamin as Bob Lyons (Celtic Speed) chased hard in both sessions to be third.
